Former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, widely known by her stage name Amaranta Hank, has been sworn in as a senator in Colombia after securing a seat in the country’s parliamentary elections.
Her inauguration marks an unusual transition from the adult entertainment industry to national politics, making her one of the most widely discussed members of Colombia’s newly constituted Senate.
According to Colombian media reports, Omaña will represent Norte de Santander in the Senate as a member of the Historic Pact coalition during the 2026–2030 legislative term.
She secured her seat after placing 23rd on the coalition’s closed electoral list. The Historic Pact emerged as the largest political alliance in the election, winning 22.72 per cent of the Senate vote. Official figures from Colombia’s National Registry show the coalition received more than 4.4 million votes, earning 25 seats in the upper chamber.
Before entering politics, Omaña worked as a journalist before becoming an adult film performer, where she gained prominence under the name Amaranta Hank.
Throughout her campaign, she argued that her previous profession should not determine her ability to serve in public office, maintaining that people who work in the adult entertainment industry deserve equal rights, legal protections and freedom from discrimination.
She also campaigned for stronger labour protections and greater legal recognition for workers in the adult entertainment sector.
Responding to criticism following her election, Omaña defended her candidacy in a video shared on TikTok, questioning why her past career should prevent her from holding elected office.
In Spanish, she asked: “¿Por qué una mujer que estuvo en la industria para adultos no puede aspirar a un cargo de elección popular?”
Translated into English, the statement reads: “Why can’t a woman who worked in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office?”
Her comments sparked widespread debate online, with supporters praising her stance against discrimination, while critics questioned whether her previous career was compatible with public office.
Beyond issues affecting adult entertainment workers, Omaña has pledged to champion legislation focused on improving mental health services, preventing sexual abuse, and strengthening protections for vulnerable groups across Colombia.
Her election comes months after she and former adult performer Juan Carlos Florián were appointed to senior positions in Colombia’s Ministry of Equality under the administration of President Gustavo Petro, appointments that also generated significant political debate.
With her inauguration, Omaña becomes one of the newest members of Colombia’s Senate, bringing an unconventional background and policy agenda into the country’s national legislature.
