Wike Denies Makinde’s Claim, Says Governor Lied Over Alleged PDP Comment

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has responded to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over claims that he told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that he would “hold the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)” for him.

Reacting to the allegation, Wike dismissed Makinde’s statement as false, insisting that the governor misrepresented facts.

Wike Rejects Allegation

According to the FCT minister, he never told President Tinubu that he would take control of or “hold” the PDP on his behalf. Wike described the claim as a deliberate lie, stating that he has consistently been clear about his political positions.

He added that attempts to drag his name into internal PDP issues or attribute statements to him that he did not make were misleading and unnecessary.

Background to the Exchange

Governor Makinde had earlier alleged that Wike told President Tinubu he would manage or hold the PDP for him, a claim that quickly generated reactions within political circles.

Wike’s response comes amid ongoing tensions and power struggles within the PDP, with key figures trading accusations over loyalty, leadership, and control of the party.

Political Context

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, has remained a controversial figure within the PDP following his fallout with some party leaders and his role in the 2023 elections. Governor Makinde, on the other hand, has been vocal about internal party reforms and unity.
