Gunmen Attack Old Oyo National Park in Oke Ogun, Casualties Feared

Gunmen have reportedly launched an attack on the located in the Oke Ogun geopolitical zone of Oyo State.

According to reports, the attack occurred on Wednesday and involved heavy shooting. Some fatalities were reportedly recorded, although the exact number of casualties had not been confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

Police Confirm Incident

The Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the development in a statement sent to journalists on Wednesday afternoon.

He disclosed that security agencies had been mobilised to respond to the incident.

“Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men against personnel of the national park.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, and other service chiefs are currently on their way to the location.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has deployed tactical teams, Mobile Police Force operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to the affected area to prevent further breakdown of law and order,” the statement read.

Security Operations Ongoing

Security operatives are currently moving into the area as investigations continue and efforts are intensified to restore calm.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the attackers or the full extent of casualties.
