The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Biodun Oyebanji, winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.
The declaration was made on Sunday by the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Adenike Oladiji, following the collation of results from across the state.
According to the official results announced by INEC, Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes to defeat his closest rivals by a wide margin.
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oluwole Oluyede, garnered 40,543 votes, while Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Party (ADP) polled 12,872 votes.
The outcome gives the incumbent governor a decisive victory and secures him another term in office.
Professor Oladiji disclosed that a total of 384,940 voters were accredited for the election.
She added that 375,777 votes were declared valid, while 6,332 votes were rejected.
The results showed the APC maintaining a dominant lead across the state, with Oyebanji recording a significant margin over other contestants.
The victory is expected to strengthen the ruling party’s hold on Ekiti State and is likely to be viewed as a major political boost for the APC ahead of future elections.
INEC officials, election observers and security agencies had earlier commended the generally peaceful conduct of the election across most parts of the state.
With the declaration, Biodun Oyebanji officially emerges as the governor-elect for another term, extending APC’s control of Ekiti State following a resounding electoral performance.
