FUOYE SUG President Scandal Deepens As Extortion Allegations And Leaked Video Stir Controversy

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has found itself at the centre of a major controversy involving suspended Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, James Iyanuoluwa Adio, following allegations of financial misconduct and the circulation of a leaked private video that has sparked widespread reactions online.

The unfolding drama has dominated conversations across social media platforms, drawing attention from students, university authorities and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

According to statements issued by the university, Adio was among three individuals suspended after a preliminary investigation into the alleged collection of an unauthorized ₦1,000 levy from 100-level students for practical sessions.

Others affected by the suspension include Olanrewaju Patrick Ogunjobi, Director of the Directorate of Educational Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Dr. Banji Rildwan Olaleye, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Support Services.

FUOYE management said the funds were allegedly collected outside the institution’s approved payment channels, which require processing through the university bursary and approval from relevant authorities.

The university alleged that Ogunjobi authorized and coordinated the collection, while Olaleye was linked to the process.

Adio was accused of indirect involvement after investigators reportedly discovered that part of the funds was shared among individuals involved, with about ₦700,000 allegedly transferred into his personal bank account after he demanded a refund.

In a statement signed by Registrar Mufutau Ibrahim, the university said the suspensions were necessary pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings.

Management reiterated its commitment to combating corruption, extortion and financial misconduct within the institution.

The controversy took a new turn shortly after the suspension announcement when a private video allegedly involving Adio and a female social media personality surfaced online and quickly went viral.

The video, which circulated across X, TikTok and Instagram, generated intense public debate and speculation.

While various claims have emerged regarding the circumstances surrounding the recording, no official findings have been released regarding how the video was made or leaked.

Reports indicate that Adio considers the leak a violation of his privacy and may pursue legal action against those responsible.

As the controversy escalated, FUOYE announced the suspension of two students, identified as Alao Iyanuoluwa Odunayo and Olawale Abiodun Samuel.

The university accused them of involvement in the online dissemination of the video and alleged cyberbullying against the suspended student leader.

In a statement issued by Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Tajudeen Opoola, the institution described the alleged actions as misconduct capable of bringing the university into disrepute.

The suspensions have attracted reactions from NANS, which has criticized the university’s decision to suspend the SUG President.

Student leaders within the Southwest zone of the association have reportedly engaged university authorities and called for dialogue over the matter.

The development has continued to generate mixed reactions online, with some focusing on the allegations of financial impropriety while others have raised concerns about privacy violations and cyberbullying.

As of June 21, 2026, Adio remains suspended alongside the two university officials implicated in the financial misconduct investigation and the two students accused of leaking the video.

University authorities say investigations into both the extortion allegations and the circumstances surrounding the leaked video are ongoing.

The case remains one of the most discussed campus controversies in recent months, with many awaiting the outcome of the various disciplinary and investigative processes currently underway.
