Senate President Godswill Akpabio has praised President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s infrastructure drive, describing him as a leader who continues to deliver projects despite criticism.
Akpabio made the remarks on Thursday while representing the President at the commissioning of the newly completed Airport Road (Bill Clinton Drive) to Tungan Madaki Community road in the Federal Capital Territory.
The event formed part of activities marking Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.
During his address, the Senate President also showered praise on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing him as a “miracle worker” and “Mr Project” for the pace of infrastructure development in Abuja.
Akpabio said he was impressed by the quality of the newly commissioned road and expressed confidence that it would serve residents for decades without major deterioration.
“I also come from a community, so I know what it means to stay for 37 or 40 years without a road,” he said.
Drawing from his experience as a former governor, Akpabio noted that the construction company responsible for the project had previously handled major roads in his state, some of which remain in good condition years after completion.
“One of the roads they constructed during my administration was commissioned about 15 years ago and till today there is no pothole. So when I saw that they handled this road, I became confident that, considering the terrain in the FCT, we could be looking at 25 years or more without a pothole,” he stated.
The Senate President commended Wike for engaging reputable contractors and maintaining a strong focus on infrastructure development across the capital city.
According to him, many Nigerians were initially uncertain about what the former Rivers State governor would achieve in the FCT, but his performance has exceeded expectations.
“I knew you would bring the same energy and commitment you demonstrated in Rivers State to the FCT, but many people were skeptical,” Akpabio said.
“A lot of people did not know that the former governor of Rivers State could come here and do the kind of work you are doing on a daily basis.”
He also highlighted the scale of project commissioning activities currently taking place in Abuja, describing it as unprecedented.
“This is the first time in Nigeria’s history that a minister would have enough projects to commission for 30 consecutive days,” he added.
Akpabio concluded by praising President Tinubu for appointing Wike and sustaining support for infrastructure projects across the country.
Referring to the President as “Mr Deliverer,” he said Tinubu has remained focused on development regardless of political criticism.
“I am here to represent President Bola Tinubu. I think Nigerians should call him Mr Deliverer, a leader who keeps delivering no matter the criticism,” Akpabio said.
The commissioning is one of several infrastructure projects being unveiled by the FCT Administration as part of activities marking the administration’s third year in office.
