Old Video Of Late Kola Oyewo Discussing Health Battle Resurfaces After His Death At 80

An old video of veteran Nollywood actor and scholar, Dr. Kola Oyewo, speaking candidly about his health struggles has resurfaced online following the announcement of his death at the age of 80.

The emotional clip has reignited conversations about the actor’s resilience, with fans and colleagues reflecting on the difficult medical journey he endured in the years leading up to his passing.

In the resurfaced interview, recorded in 2024 with filmmaker and actor Kunle Afod, Oyewo opened up about the health challenges that dramatically changed his life.

According to the late actor, the ordeal began around July 2019 when he started experiencing difficulty while urinating.

Concerned about the unusual symptoms, he sought medical attention from a family doctor in Ilaramokin, Ondo State, who advised him to undergo further examinations to determine the cause of the condition.

What initially appeared to be a manageable health issue later developed into a more serious medical challenge.

Oyewo revealed in the interview that doctors carried out a series of tests and treatments before linking the condition to an enlarged prostate.

As his health deteriorated, the veteran actor said he eventually underwent major surgery as part of efforts to save his life.

He explained that the medical procedures significantly altered his health and affected aspects of his daily living, forcing him to adjust to a new reality.

Despite the physical and emotional toll of the illness, Oyewo spoke with remarkable honesty and gratitude, reflecting on the experience with courage and dignity.

The resurfaced interview has drawn renewed sympathy from Nigerians, many of whom praised the actor for using his story to create awareness about prostate-related health issues and the importance of seeking early medical attention.

The video emerged shortly after news broke that the revered thespian had passed away at the age of 80.

Dr. Kola Oyewo, born on March 27, 1946, in Oba-Ile, Osun State, enjoyed a distinguished career spanning more than six decades.

He began his acting journey with the Oyin Adejobi Theatre Group in 1964 and went on to become one of the most respected figures in Yoruba theatre and Nollywood.

He was celebrated for his memorable roles in productions such as The Gods Are Not to Blame, Sango, Saworoide, Koseegbe, and Efunsetan Aniwura.

Beyond acting, Oyewo also made significant contributions to academia, mentoring generations of theatre practitioners through his work as a lecturer in theatre arts.

As tributes continue to pour in from across the entertainment industry, many have described him as a cultural icon whose passion for storytelling, education and preserving Yoruba heritage will never be forgotten.

Even in death, the veteran actor’s final reflections on his health journey continue to inspire conversations about resilience, faith and the importance of prioritising one’s well-being.
