Tragedy As Helicopter Crashes Into Jungle Minutes After Takeoff, 8 Confirmed Dead

Eight people have lost their lives after a helicopter crashed into a dense forest shortly after takeoff in Indonesia.

The aircraft disappeared from radar just minutes into its journey on Thursday, April 16, while flying over parts of Borneo known for vast palm oil plantations.

Reports said the Airbus H130, operated by PT Matthew Air Nusantara, lost communication about five minutes after departing from Melawi district in West Kalimantan province.

The helicopter was travelling to another plantation site in Kubu Raya district when the incident occurred.

Search and rescue teams later located the wreckage in a forest area within Sekadau district, where the bodies of all eight occupants were recovered.

Authorities said those on board included two crew members and six passengers. All victims were male, while one of them was identified as a Malaysian national.

The remains were transported to Pontianak, the provincial capital.

Officials from the National Search and Rescue Agency confirmed that there were no survivors in the crash.

Investigations are expected to determine the cause of the accident.
