Skales stated that while citizens have no problem with the EFCC performing its legitimate duties, such operations must be conducted with the utmost decency. He questioned why the agency’s operatives regularly invade apartments “like armed robbers” just to arrest a youth suspected of cybercrime, noting that a vastly different approach is used when dealing with politicians accused of stealing billions of Naira. He clarified that while he does not support fraud, he strongly opposes the manner in which the EFCC goes about arresting suspects.
The rapper shared a video showing around 20 operatives scaling gates and fences to gain entry into an apartment during the Lekki raid, where a young woman was reportedly harassed while trying to make a phone call.
Responding to the footage, the EFCC released a statement claiming the operation was professional. The anti-graft agency alleged that the young woman was attempting to use her phone to alert suspects of their presence, confirming that her phone was temporarily seized and later returned.
Calling on Nigerian youths to unite against what he described as institutional “intimidation,” Skales revealed that his outcry stems from personal experience. The musician disclosed that he suffered an identical, traumatizing raid by the agency a few years ago, and continues to live with the resulting trauma.
