How Adelabu’s Sister Was Kidnapped: Police Reveal Trusted Family Aide Allegedly Leaked Information To Abductors

The Oyo State Police Command has revealed that a trusted aide attached to the family of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, allegedly played a key role in the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons.

According to police authorities, the suspect, identified simply as Shehu, allegedly provided the kidnappers with sensitive information about the family’s daily routine, enabling them to plan the attack.

Mrs Olaide and her twin sons, Peter and Paul, were abducted on June 3, 2026, while she was on her way to drop the children off at school in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident sparked widespread concern, given the family’s ties to the former minister.

Police Uncover Alleged Insider Role

Speaking on the development, the Oyo State Police Command disclosed that investigations pointed to the involvement of a household insider who had earned the family’s trust.

According to the police, Shehu allegedly leaked details about the family’s movements and routines to members of the kidnapping gang.

Investigators further revealed that the abductors had initially planned to target Mrs Olaide alone.

However, they reportedly altered their strategy after learning that the children were usually driven to school by another individual.

The information allegedly supplied by the aide enabled the suspects to identify the most vulnerable opportunity to strike.

Victims Rescued Unharmed

The victims were eventually rescued during a police operation following sustained intelligence gathering and tactical pressure on the kidnappers.

Police said the rescue operation led to a gun battle during which two suspected kidnappers were neutralised.

Mrs Olaide and her children were rescued unharmed.

While the family escaped physical injury, the revelation that someone within their trusted circle allegedly facilitated the crime has added another layer of emotional trauma to the ordeal.

Police Continue Manhunt

Despite the successful rescue, authorities disclosed that some members of the kidnapping syndicate remain at large.

Security operatives have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects and uncover everyone connected to the crime.

The command assured residents that no effort would be spared in ensuring all those involved are brought to justice.
