US Names Nigerian Among Alleged ISIS Financiers In Global Terror Funding Crackdown

The United States government has designated a Nigerian national and several individuals and entities across Europe, the Middle East and West Africa as alleged financiers of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

The designation was announced in a statement issued by Thomas Pigott, spokesperson for the US Department of State, as part of Washington’s ongoing efforts to disrupt global terrorism financing networks.

According to the statement, three individuals and six entities were sanctioned for allegedly facilitating financial transactions and support activities linked to ISIS operations across multiple countries.

The US government said the network operates across France, Syria, Türkiye and Nigeria, helping to move funds and resources used by the terrorist group and its affiliates.

Pigott stated that the latest action forms part of a broader campaign by the United States to cut off financial channels used by ISIS to fund attacks, recruit members and sustain its operations around the world.

“Under the leadership of President Trump, the United States is dismantling ISIS’s ability to finance terrorism around the world. We are cutting off the financial lifelines that enable ISIS to fund attacks, support its regional affiliates, and threaten civilians, including religious minorities,” the statement said.

Among those sanctioned is a France-based individual accused of providing information related to the use of explosives to ISIS supporters.

The statement also identified a Syria-based operative who allegedly used cryptocurrency channels to facilitate financial transfers for ISIS-linked individuals in several countries, including the United States.

A Nigerian money exchanger was also named in the sanctions. According to US authorities, businesses linked to the individual allegedly served as channels for moving funds connected to ISIS financing activities.

The US government said the designations are intended to disrupt the group’s ability to access financial resources and conduct operations across different regions.

The latest sanctions highlight growing international concerns over the use of informal financial systems, cryptocurrency platforms and cross-border business networks by extremist groups to move funds and evade detection.

American authorities said efforts to identify and dismantle ISIS financing networks will continue as part of broader counterterrorism operations aimed at weakening the group’s global influence and operational capabilities.
