Bauchi Police Arrest 45-Year-Old Man for Defiling Neighbour’s 8-Year-Old Daughter After Mob Attack

Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have apprehended a 45-year-old man identified as Muhammad Makama for allegedly defiling his neighbor’s eight-year-old daughter. The incident occurred in the Dorawan Dillalai community within the Bauchi metropolis.

According to official reports, the suspect was subjected to a severe beating by an angry mob in the neighborhood before police officers intervened to rescue him and effect his arrest.
Confirming the incident in a press statement on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, explained that the victim’s 32-year-old mother reported the crime to the ‘E’ Division in Yelwa.

The mother stated that on July 5, 2026, Makama lured the unsuspecting minor into his room to commit the act. Following her formal complaint, law enforcement agents swiftly moved into the area to secure the suspect and commence preliminary investigations.

SP Habib noted that both the young girl and the suspect received immediate medical attention. The young victim was rushed to the Police Clinic for a comprehensive medical examination and necessary care. The suspect was also treated at the same facility for injuries sustained during the mob attack before being discharged back into police custody.

The authorities have since transferred the case to the Gender Laboratory of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi to ensure a thorough, discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has strongly condemned the incident. Reaffirming the command’s strict zero-tolerance policy towards Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), the CP assured residents that the suspect will face the full wrath of the law.

He further advised parents, guardians, and local communities to maintain strict vigilance over children and to immediately report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
