A model and chef, Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as Ibee, has died after he was allegedly assaulted by a mob over accusations that he stole an iPhone in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, July 26, 2026, in the Ring Road area of Jos.
According to reports, Mbaya, who was a contestant in the Mr. and Miss Glam Nigeria 2026 competition, denied the allegation that he stole the phone.
Rather than handing him over to law enforcement authorities for investigation, some individuals allegedly took the law into their own hands and assaulted him with various objects.
The victim was subsequently rushed to a hospital in Jos for medical treatment but later died from the injuries he reportedly sustained during the attack.
The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the growing trend of jungle justice and calling for those responsible to be identified and prosecuted.
As of the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident or confirmed whether any arrests had been made.
The tragic incident has renewed calls for members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead report criminal allegations to the appropriate security agencies for proper investigation and due process.
Justice should be determined through lawful investigation and the courts, not by mob action.
