African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has offered to support controversial disc jockey and TikTok personality Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, following his arraignment over alleged threats against Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.
In a post shared on his official X account, Sowore said he was willing to help the content creator challenge the charges brought against him, describing the prosecution as excessive.
The activist appealed to anyone with contact information for DJ Chicken’s family to reach out so he could provide assistance.
“If anyone knows how to reach DJ Chicken’s family or relatives, I will be happy to advocate for him and help him challenge the burdensome charges brought against him by the jobless @PoliceNG,” Sowore wrote.
He argued that the TikToker should not be kept behind bars while the case is being prosecuted, insisting that DJ Chicken is entitled to his constitutional rights.
“I want to help get DJ Chicken out of prison because I do not believe he deserves to spend a day behind bars; he is entitled to his liberty under the law,” he added.
Sowore further urged authorities to focus on creating opportunities for young Nigerians instead of subjecting them to unnecessary criminal prosecution.
“Young Nigerians need opportunities, guidance, and justice, not persecution and endless incarceration,” he stated.
DJ Chicken is currently facing a three-count charge bordering on alleged threat to kill, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, and offences under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges when he was arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos.
The court subsequently granted him ₦1 million bail with two sureties in like sum but ordered that he remain at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until the bail conditions are fulfilled.
The case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
Sowore’s intervention has added a fresh dimension to the public debate surrounding the case, with discussions continuing over freedom of expression, cybercrime laws, and the treatment of social media personalities by law enforcement agencies.
