Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has issued a warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, urging him not to underestimate what he described as the role of divine intervention in political affairs.
Melaye, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the remarks in a post shared on his X account on Wednesday, where he drew a historical comparison between Tinubu’s political future and the aborted transition programme of the late former military Head of State, General Sani Abacha.
According to the former lawmaker, Abacha once enjoyed overwhelming political backing during his attempt to transform from a military ruler into a democratically elected civilian president. He noted that the late military leader had secured the endorsement of all five registered political parties at the time, creating the impression that his emergence as civilian president was inevitable.
However, Melaye argued that despite the broad political support Abacha received, the plan never came to fruition because of what he called the “God factor.”
In his post, Melaye wrote: “There is a God factor in the affairs of men. Tinubu does not understand this. Abacha was endorsed by all the five political parties at that time. There was no contest; he was already cruising to become a civilian president. God picked His phone and called Abacha. When God calls you, there is no network failure. That God has not gone on omugo, Tinubu watch it.”
The statement comes as political activities and discussions surrounding the 2027 general election continue to gain momentum, with opposition figures and political parties increasingly positioning themselves ahead of the next presidential contest.
Melaye’s comments add to the growing political discourse over the future of President Tinubu’s administration and the battle expected to shape Nigeria’s next presidential election.
