A member of the House of Representatives representing the Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency of Katsina State, Abdullahi Aliyu, popularly known as General, has alleged that a suspected gun runner disappeared after collecting ₦95 million from a bandit leader with a promise to procure sophisticated firearms.
Aliyu made the claim during an interview with NTA Hausa, saying the alleged incident occurred in Matazu Local Government Area.
According to the lawmaker, the suspected intermediary received the money to supply high-grade weapons but reportedly vanished without delivering the firearms or returning the funds.
Lawmaker links incident to rising insecurity
Aliyu claimed the failed arms deal has heightened tensions in parts of Katsina State, alleging that a notorious bandit leader identified as Kachalla Maha withdrew from an existing peace arrangement after the suspected gun runner disappeared.
He further alleged that the bandit group has since intensified attacks on surrounding communities by imposing levies and demanding livestock from residents, worsening the security situation in the area.
The lawmaker said the development highlights the growing threat posed by the illegal arms trade and its impact on banditry across Nigeria’s North West.
Authorities yet to confirm claim
The allegation has generated widespread reactions on social media, with many users expressing surprise over reports that a suspected bandit leader was allegedly defrauded during an illegal arms transaction.
Others, however, urged caution, noting that security agencies have not issued any official statement confirming the alleged ₦95 million transaction or the disappearance of the suspected gun runner.
