BBNaija star Bella Okagbue has broken her silence on the controversy surrounding her relationship and breakup with fellow reality TV star Sheggz, saying her decision to remain quiet should not be interpreted as an admission of guilt.
Bella addressed the situation in a statement shared on her Instagram Story, explaining that she initially chose not to speak publicly because she believed certain aspects of the relationship should remain private.
“For the past few days, I have watched people tell my story for me. I stayed silent because I believed some things deserved to remain private, but my silence should never be mistaken for guilt. I loved genuinely,” she wrote.
She said she defended the relationship because she genuinely believed in it at the time and chose to give her partner a second chance because she believed people could change.
“I defended the relationship because I believed in it at the time, and I chose to give someone I loved a second chance because I believe people can grow and change,” Bella added.
The reality star also addressed discussions surrounding marriage and the engagement ring, rejecting any suggestion that her desire to marry someone she loved amounted to desperation.
According to Bella, wanting marriage with someone she loved was a genuine decision, while recognising when a relationship should end requires discernment.
“On marriage and the ring, let me be clear: wanting marriage with someone you love is not desperation. Knowing when not to marry them is discernment,” she said.
She further suggested that some of the accounts of the relationship currently circulating online do not reflect her own experience.
Bella also indicated that there are details about the relationship she has chosen not to reveal publicly.
“Sometimes, it takes more courage to walk away than to stay. A ring doesn’t fix what made a relationship impossible. A hundred promises. Not one fulfilled,” she wrote.
She concluded by saying that she had given love, change and loyalty a chance but had now decided to choose herself and move forward.
