Omotola Jalade Reveals How Much She Received After ‘Mother’s Love’ Grossed ₦103m

Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omotola Jalade has revealed how much the producers of her movie, Mother’s Love, received after the film grossed more than ₦103 million at the Nigerian box office.

Omotola shared the financial breakdown on her Instagram page while reflecting on the movie’s cinema performance and explaining the difference between its reported gross revenue and the amount eventually received by the producers.

According to the actress, Mother’s Love ended its cinema run with a total gross of ₦103,094,663.

However, after deductions covering exhibitors, distributors, printing, advertising, Value Added Tax, entertainment tax, withholding tax and other cinema-related expenses, the producers received ₦22,276,558.

“At the end of our run, we had made ₦103,094,663. After deduction from exhibitors, distributors, print, advertising, value added tax, entertainment tax and withholding tax, all deductions and everything else from cinemas, the money that was accrued to us as producers of Mother’s was ₦22,276,558,” she said.

Omotola further disclosed that the producers did not keep the ₦22.2 million proceeds.

According to her, 100 per cent of the money was donated to Slum2School Africa, fulfilling a commitment previously made by Red Hot Concepts following the movie’s April 19 premiere.

“100% of that money, as promised by Red Hot Concepts, was donated to the NGO, Slum to School Africa.”

The actress expressed gratitude for the support the movie received throughout its theatrical run and for the opportunity to fulfil the charitable commitment attached to the project.

Her disclosure has also drawn attention to how Nigerian box-office figures work, particularly the difference between a movie’s publicly reported cinema gross and the amount ultimately received by its producers.

While Mother’s Love generated more than ₦103 million in ticket sales, Omotola’s breakdown indicates that approximately ₦80.8 million of the gross went towards the various deductions she listed before the producers received their share.

The revelation offers a rare public insight into the financial structure behind Nigerian cinema releases, where headline box-office figures do not necessarily represent the profit or income received by filmmakers.
