President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke following his victory in the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
Adeleke disclosed this while speaking with journalists shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared him the winner of the election.
The governor said Tinubu called him personally to congratulate him, describing the gesture as a demonstration of support for the democratic process.
“I want to seize the opportunity to thank Mr President. Mr President has called me and he has congratulated me, and I thank you for making sure democracy lives on because we fought for it,” Adeleke said.
The governor also expressed confidence that he would emerge victorious, saying his faith in God gave him assurance throughout the election.
“I have a God who never fails. I have a God who never fails. I have a God who never fails. He will never fail. And Jesus never fails,” he said.
Adeleke also called on the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, to accept the election result and congratulate him.
“I’m expecting Oyebamiji, even as a civilised person, to call and congratulate me,” the governor said.
Adeleke was declared winner after polling 511,067 votes, defeating Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes.
The governor’s victory gives him another four-year mandate in Osun State, following his victory in the 2022 governorship election.
