Popular Nigerian dancer and socialite Iweh Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, is currently on remand in the United Kingdom and is expected to appear before a London court in September over an alleged assault offence.
The development was confirmed on Monday by Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of a community of Nigerians in the United Kingdom.
Kuti told PUNCH Online that Poco Lee is currently being held in a UK prison and is scheduled to appear before Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 15, 2026, at 10am.
According to Kuti, the hearing is expected to be a plea hearing, where the dancer would ordinarily indicate whether he intends to plead guilty or not guilty to the allegation.
“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison. His next court date is scheduled for the second week of September, when he is expected to have a plea hearing,” Kuti said.
Kuti said he became aware of the case through his regular involvement in court proceedings and his support for Nigerians facing legal matters in the UK.
He also said he intends to attend Poco Lee’s forthcoming hearing as part of his efforts to support members of the Nigerian community.
“I will also be attending the court proceedings as part of my support for the Nigerian community in the UK, to ensure that our fellow Nigerian receives the appropriate support during this difficult period of his life,” he said.
Kuti stressed that the legal process should be allowed to take its course, noting that Poco Lee remains innocent unless proven guilty by a court.
“It is important that we allow the legal process to take its course. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” he added.
Reports about Poco Lee’s alleged detention in the UK began circulating online on August 19. However, early reports did not identify the alleged complainant or provide detailed information about the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.
There was also no immediate independent confirmation from UK police or the court when the initial reports emerged.
An email sent to Snaresbrook Crown Court seeking confirmation of the reported hearing details had not received a response as of the time of filing the report.
Poco Lee is widely known for his work as a professional dancer and his collaborations with prominent Nigerian entertainers. The September hearing is expected to provide further details about the allegation and the legal proceedings against him.
