The husband of Anulika Onyeanusia, the 36-year-old woman arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over an alleged child sexual abuse and pornography case, has recounted how he discovered the disturbing video that led to his wife’s arrest.
Ikechukwu Onyeanyusi said a friend showed him the video while he was returning from his business on Thursday evening, shortly before police operatives arrived at their residence in Onitsha.
According to him, he had not seen the video online before his friend brought it to his attention.
“I saw the video. It was my wife, and I saw my daughter. She was molesting the child.”
Onyeanyusi said he was initially confused and struggled to believe what he was seeing. He said his friend advised him to remain calm before he confronted his wife about the video.
According to him, Anulika initially denied the allegation and claimed the video had been generated using artificial intelligence.
“I came to her, and I asked her, ‘What exactly is this that I saw on the internet?’ She said what? ‘I saw your video molesting my daughters. How come this happened?’ She said no. That it’s not true.”
The husband said he challenged her explanation because he believed he had seen her and the child in the footage.
“I saw you! I saw your video! I saw everything, and you are telling me it’s not true? What makes it not to be true?”
He said she maintained that the video was AI-generated.
Onyeanyusi said he later returned to his friend and discussed his wife’s explanation with him, questioning whether the footage could actually have been fabricated using artificial intelligence.
He said police officers arrived at the family’s residence shortly afterwards and searched the premises before arresting his wife.
“Before I knew it, police have already come to my house. They said they want to search. I said to them, ‘Okay.’ So they did all the searching they did, they arrested her and all of us left.”
According to Onyeanyusi, his wife later acknowledged the allegation while being questioned at the police station.
He said the Divisional Police Officer subsequently asked both of them whether he knew about what was allegedly happening to the children.
Onyeanyusi said both he and his wife indicated that he had no knowledge of the alleged abuse.
He then said he directly asked his wife whether she had committed the act.
“That is when I turned to her, I asked her, ‘Did you do this, really?’ And she said yes.”
The husband said the response left him devastated.
“I got weak. I got tired. How come this kind of a thing can happen? How can you do this kind of a thing?”
The Anambra State Police Command had earlier confirmed Onyeanusia’s arrest on September 10 following information obtained through open-source intelligence concerning a disturbing video allegedly showing a woman using sex toys on a minor. The command said the operation also led to the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine and the recovery of sex toys and other items relevant to the investigation.
Police said Onyeanusia remained in custody while investigators worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine whether other people were involved. The command also said her husband was being questioned to determine whether he had any connection to the alleged offence.
In a separate video of her questioning that has circulated online, Onyeanusia was reported to have told investigators that she uploaded sexually explicit material involving her daughter to a pornography platform for financial gain. Reports said she claimed the highest amount she received was $300.
She reportedly pleaded for forgiveness and blamed the devil for her actions.
The allegations have not been adjudicated in court, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Onyeanyusi said he was deeply disappointed by what he described as the alleged abuse of his daughter and decided to speak publicly to explain how he became aware of the incident.
“I am totally disappointed in my wife. I never believed that she is going to do this kind of a thing, even to the daughter… to her own daughter and to my own daughter. I never believed it.”
The development has also drawn a response from Dr Nonye Soludo, wife of Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, who condemned the alleged abuse and called for thorough investigation and appropriate care and protection for the rescued children.
The police have said the identities and privacy of the children will be protected as the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings continue.
