Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, has reportedly been shot dead at Mayfair Park in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
According to reports circulating on Sunday, Oyeyemi was allegedly involved in a dispute over the control of the park before the situation escalated into violence.
He was reportedly shot during the confrontation.
Details surrounding the incident, including the identity of the suspected shooter or shooters and the circumstances that led to the reported dispute, remain unclear.
There has been no official confirmation from the Osun State Police Command at the time of publication confirming Oyeyemi’s reported death.
Oyeyemi was previously a prominent figure in Osun’s park management and political circles. He was appointed by Governor Ademola Adeleke as a member of the state’s Transport Disciplinary Committee in January 2023.
He was subsequently arrested by the police in September 2023 after previously being declared wanted over allegations including murder, cultism and armed robbery. He was later arraigned before the Federal High Court in Osogbo on charges including alleged murder and terrorism.
In April 2024, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola granted Oyeyemi ₦50 million bail, with two sureties, after ruling that the prosecution had not provided sufficient evidence at that stage to justify keeping him in custody. The criminal case was not a finding of guilt, and the charges remained allegations.
The latest report of his alleged killing therefore requires confirmation from the police or other authoritative sources before the circumstances of his reported death can be established.
TheNaijaWide will update this report if the Osun State Police Command or another authoritative source confirms the incident.
