The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM) branch, has suspended its four-week “No Pay, No Work” industrial action and directed members to return to their official duties.
The union announced the decision in a statement signed by its branch chairperson, Terseer Abari, and made available to journalists on Sunday.
According to Abari, the decision followed progress made during negotiations with the university management and the resolution of some of the issues that led to the industrial action.
“Consequently, the Congress directed all members of the Branch to resume their official duties with effect from Friday, 11th September 2026.”
The FUAM branch commenced the strike on August 12, 2026, following a dispute over the payment of members’ Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance and Professorial Allowance.
Abari commended members for what he described as their resilience, unity, patience and commitment throughout the industrial action.
He said the outcome of the dispute had again demonstrated the importance of collective action and solidarity in advancing the interests and welfare of university workers.
The ASUU branch chairman also acknowledged the role of the university administration during the dispute, appreciating its cooperation and efforts towards resolving the issues.
He said the union remained willing to maintain constructive discussions with management on matters affecting staff welfare, members’ interests and the continued development of the institution.
Following the suspension, ASUU urged members to resume their duties with renewed dedication while reaffirming its commitment to the principles and traditions of the union.
The branch also thanked students, members of the public, stakeholders, organisations and individuals who supported the lecturers or showed understanding during the period of the strike.
The suspension means academic activities at FUAM can resume following the four-week disruption, although the union’s statement indicates that some issues were resolved while negotiations would continue on matters affecting staff welfare.
