A young girl has reportedly been found dead around the Water Well area of Bonny Island, Rivers State, amid growing concerns over insecurity in the community.
The girl was reportedly found on Friday, September 11, 2026, although details surrounding her identity, the circumstances of her death and how she came to be at the location remain unclear.
A disturbing image of the deceased has been circulating online, with residents raising concerns that she may have been sexually assaulted before her death.
However, there is currently no official confirmation that the victim was raped or sexually assaulted. That aspect of the case would need to be established through a proper medical and forensic examination.
The latest incident has heightened concerns among residents following other reports of insecurity around the Water Well area, including claims of kidnappings and the recent abduction of two young boys.
Residents are now calling for urgent intervention from security agencies, saying the incidents should not be treated as isolated occurrences.
They are demanding that authorities identify the deceased, establish the circumstances surrounding her death, determine whether she was sexually assaulted, and arrest anyone found responsible.
The concerns are particularly significant because Water Well is a recognised area of Bonny Island, with several residential and commercial locations situated around the community.
The incident also comes against the backdrop of broader concerns about infrastructure and security in parts of Bonny. In July, the Bonny Local Government chairman sought support from Nigeria LNG Limited for road and drainage projects, including a proposed road linking Water Well 5 and Akiama Road.
For now, TheNaijaWide could not independently verify the circumstances of the girl’s death or confirm the sexual-assault allegation from an official police source.
We will update the report if the Rivers State Police Command or another relevant authority confirms the incident and provides further details.
