Desmond Elliot Kneels, Apologises to Gbajabiamila Over Lagos APC Primary Dispute

Lagos State House of Assembly member Desmond Elliot has apologised to the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, over his conduct during the last All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Lagos.

In a video circulating on social media, Elliot was seen kneeling before Gbajabiamila as he asked for forgiveness and appealed to be accepted back into the APC political structure in Lagos.

Speaking during the meeting, the Surulere lawmaker acknowledged that he had no excuse for his conduct and expressed regret over his actions.

“I’m sorry, I have no excuse. I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry, and I am hoping to be cultured in the future.”

The apology comes months after a disagreement between Elliot and the Lagos APC leadership over the party’s primary election for the Surulere Constituency I seat.

Elliot had withdrawn from the primary, alleging that his supporters were subjected to intimidation and political pressureduring the exercise.

He subsequently rejected the outcome and indicated that he would challenge the process through the party’s internal appeal mechanism.

The primary eventually produced Barakat Odunuga-Bakare as the APC candidate.

Odunuga-Bakare, who was widely reported to have the backing of Gbajabiamila, secured 11,385 votes, while Elliot polled 270 votes.

Elliot’s latest apology appears to signal an attempt to reconcile with the APC leadership following the dispute.

The lawmaker, a former Nollywood actor, has represented Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2015 and has remained an active figure in Lagos politics.

His public appeal to Gbajabiamila has also drawn attention to the political relationship between the two men and the internal dynamics of the APC in Surulere ahead of future elections.
