A Russian strike has killed four people in Kamianske, southeastern Ukraine, as Russian and Ukrainian forces continue to exchange long-range missile and drone attacks.
Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration, said the attack hit the city on Saturday, killing four people and injuring five others.
One of the injured victims, a 30-year-old woman, was in intensive care, according to Ganzha.
The attack came as diplomatic efforts to end the war continued, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposing a temporary ceasefire ahead of the expected visit of US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Witkoff and Kushner are serving as key negotiators for US President Donald Trump in efforts to find a way to end the conflict, which has become Europe’s deadliest war since World War II.
Trump has said the two envoys were working on a proposal aimed at breaking the diplomatic deadlock between Russia and Ukraine.
Despite the renewed diplomatic activity, fighting has continued, with both sides carrying out long-range attacks against targets in each other’s territory.
Zelensky’s ceasefire proposal is therefore being viewed against the backdrop of continued military operations and ongoing efforts by Washington to push the two sides towards a negotiated settlement.
The latest Russian strike highlights the difficulty of securing an immediate halt to hostilities as diplomatic efforts continue.
