The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is set to conduct fresh governorship primary elections in Nasarawa and Gombe states on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
The party announced the development in a notice inviting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor the exercises.
According to the notice, the fresh primaries are being conducted to select replacement candidates after the previously elected governorship candidates withdrew from the 2027 race.
The party said the exercise would be held simultaneously in both states.
“We wish to notify and invite the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to monitor the primary elections to substitute candidates for the governorship, in view of the elected candidates who have withdrawn from the race.”
The SDP said the Gombe State primary would take place at the party’s state secretariat in Gombe.
In Nasarawa State, the exercise is scheduled to hold at Ta’al Hotel, Ladia, in the state capital.
Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, is expected to emerge as the SDP governorship candidate in Nasarawa.
The fresh primaries form part of the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, following the withdrawal of its earlier candidates in the two states.
