Sokoto Bandit Attack: At Least 10 Killed, Up to 40 Abducted in Tofa

At least 10 people have reportedly been killed after suspected bandits attacked Tofa community in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The attack reportedly occurred during the night, with the assailants also said to have abducted dozens of residents, injured several others and rustled livestock before leaving the community.

Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed the development in a post on X on Monday, citing information from local sources.

According to the account, the attackers invaded Tofa and carried out a deadly assault on residents.

The number of people abducted remains uncertain. Bakatsine said local sources estimated that between 38 and 40 residents may have been taken away, although the figure was still being verified at the time of his report.

The attackers were also reportedly said to have stolen a large number of livestock and looted properties belonging to residents during the raid.

As of the time of publication, the Sokoto State Police Command had not publicly confirmed the reported casualty and abduction figures for the Tofa attack.

The absence of an official account means the reported death toll and number of abducted residents should be treated as provisional pending confirmation from security authorities or credible local sources.

The latest incident adds to persistent security concerns in Rabah LGA and other parts of eastern Sokoto, where communities have faced recurring attacks, kidnappings and cattle rustling.

In July, police and military personnel reportedly rescued 32 kidnapped victims and recovered rustled livestock after intercepting bandits in Maikujera, another community in Rabah LGA. Four people were reportedly killed in that attack before security forces intervened.

Security forces also carried out an operation in the Rabah area in late August, with the Sokoto State Police Command reporting that suspected bandits were neutralised and that weapons, motorcycles and 62 rustled animals were recovered.

The repeated attacks have continued to raise concerns about the safety of rural communities in the area, particularly as residents depend heavily on farming and livestock for their livelihoods.

Further details on the Tofa attack, including the confirmed number of casualties and abducted residents, are expected from security authorities and community sources.
