Nigerian luxury car dealer Moses Benz has reportedly suffered massive losses after a fire destroyed several high-end vehicles and parts of his dealership in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident, which began circulating on social media on Friday, October 30, reportedly involved an overnight fire at the car dealer’s premises. Videos shared online showed several luxury vehicles badly burnt, alongside damage to the building.
In a video that emerged after the incident, Moses expressed shock over the destruction, saying he did not know what he had done to deserve such treatment.
He also disclosed that the fire destroyed more than eight Mercedes-Benz GLE vehicles, alongside other exotic cars. He said the incident happened only days before his birthday.
The estimated value of the destroyed vehicles has been put at billions of naira in circulating reports, although an official assessment of the losses has not been made public.
Some reports alleged that an unidentified individual broke into the premises and deliberately set the building and vehicles on fire. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident have not been independently established, and it remains unclear whether the fire was caused by arson or another factor.
There were also reports that Moses collapsed after seeing the extent of the destruction and was taken to hospital. His reported hospitalisation and current condition have not been independently confirmed.
The incident has attracted attention online, with social media users expressing sympathy for the car dealer over the reported loss.
