Controversial Nigerian content creator Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after being arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos, over allegations of threatening to kill Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.
DJ Chicken was brought before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi on Friday on a three count charge bordering on alleged death threats, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and offences under Nigeria’s Cybercrime Act. Prosecutors told the court that the charges stemmed from a viral video the social media personality posted online in which he allegedly threatened Seyi Tinubu while discussing the 2027 presidential election.
According to the prosecution, DJ Chicken allegedly declared in Yoruba that if President Tinubu secured a second term in office, he would kill Seyi Tinubu. The video quickly circulated across social media before it was later deleted.
Following public backlash, the content creator attempted to retract the statement, claiming it was intended as comedy and a publicity stunt rather than a genuine threat.
He reportedly said he only wanted to gain attention and insisted he had no intention of harming the President’s son, adding that Seyi Tinubu “cannot die” because the video was merely content creation.
DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all three charges when they were read in court.
The court subsequently granted him bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum. One surety must be a government employee, while the second must be a recognised community leader who owns property in Lagos State. Both are required to present three years’ tax clearance, LASRRA registration, National Identification Number (NIN), utility bills, and one of the sureties must also be a blood relative of the defendant.
Pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions, Magistrate Onamusi ordered that DJ Chicken be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre. The matter has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further hearing.
