An Iran-backed militia umbrella group known as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq has released a statement claiming it is offering a $10 million reward for the assassination of United States President Donald Trump.
The statement, reportedly issued on July 16, 2026, links the threat to the January 2020 US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport that killed Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the former deputy head of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
In the statement, the group accused Trump of being responsible for the deaths of the two commanders and claimed the proposed reward had been raised through contributions from supporters.
The group also called for retaliation over the 2020 strike and claimed it would continue to pursue those it holds responsible. The statement referenced the concept of qisas, an Islamic legal principle concerning retribution, in explaining its position.
The reported announcement comes against the backdrop of longstanding tensions between the United States and Iran that intensified after the killing of Soleimani in 2020.
