Real Madrid Beat Liverpool, PSG to £100m Deal for Ivory Coast Star Yan Diomande After World Cup Breakthrough

Real Madrid have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms to sign highly rated Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig in a transfer expected to exceed £100 million.

The Spanish giants are now closing in on the 19-year-old, who is expected to travel to Madrid this week to undergo a medical before completing the move. Reports indicate that Diomande will sign a five-year contract with the LaLiga powerhouse once the remaining formalities are concluded.

Diomande had attracted strong interest from several top European clubs following an impressive rise in Germany. Liverpool were among the clubs pursuing the winger and submitted an opening offer worth £69 million in June, but RB Leipzig rejected the proposal. French champions Paris Saint-Germain also monitored the player but reportedly decided not to match Real Madrid’s financial package.

The young attacker significantly boosted his reputation with his performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he impressed on the international stage for Ivory Coast. His displays followed an outstanding domestic campaign in the Bundesliga.

During the 2025-26 season, Diomande scored 12 league goals and contributed eight assists for RB Leipzig, earning the Bundesliga’s Young Player of the Season award. His performances established him as one of Europe’s most sought-after emerging talents.

Diomande only joined RB Leipzig last summer after completing a move from Spanish club Leganés on a five-year contract. Before beginning his professional career in Spain, he left his native Ivory Coast to continue his football development at an academy in the United States in 2025.
