INEC Announces Timetable for 2027 General Election, Fixes Presidential Poll for Feb 20

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced the timetable and schedule for the 2027 general election.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, made the announcement during a press conference held in Abuja on Friday, dismissing earlier reports that the electoral body had already released the election timetable.

INEC Chairman Reacts to Earlier Reports

Speaking at the briefing, Prof. Amupitan described the earlier circulating reports as inaccurate, stressing that INEC was only now formally releasing the official election schedule.

He explained that the release of the timetable was done in line with the provisions of:

  • The 1999 Constitution

  • The Electoral Act 2022 (as amended)

According to INEC, the Presidential Election will hold on:

Governorship, National Assembly & State Elections Date

INEC also announced that the remaining elections — including:

  • Governorship

  • Senatorial

  • House of Representatives

  • State Assembly

📌 Saturday, March 6, 2027
