President Bola Tinubu has officially received the presidential Certificate of Return of the All Progressives Congress, APC, following his victory in the party’s presidential primary election ahead of the 2027 general election.
Tinubu secured 10.99 million votes during the nationwide primary exercise conducted across 8,809 wards in all 774 local government areas of the country.
His only challenger, Stanley Osifo, polled 16,504 votes.
The President was presented with the certificate and party flag on Sunday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
During his acceptance speech, Tinubu reflected on Nigeria’s democratic journey and highlighted major reforms carried out under his administration since assuming office in 2023.
He thanked APC leaders, governors, lawmakers, party members and Nigerians for their continued support.
“I accept, with humility and profound gratitude, the nomination of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, to stand again as its Presidential candidate in the 2027 election,” Tinubu stated.
The President defended his administration’s economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate restructuring and tax reforms, insisting they were necessary to stabilise the country’s economy.
According to him, the government has made progress in education funding, electricity supply, infrastructure development and fiscal management.
Tinubu disclosed that over ₦282 billion has been disbursed through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund to more than 1.5 million beneficiaries.
On electricity, he said the administration supplied 2.5 million electricity meters under the Presidential Metering Initiative and established a ₦4 trillion bond programme to settle legacy debts owed to power generation companies.
He also highlighted infrastructure projects including coastal highways, the Sokoto-Badagry road project, airport upgrades and oil sector reforms aimed at attracting foreign investment.
Speaking on insecurity, Tinubu acknowledged that security challenges remain across parts of the country but assured Nigerians that his administration is intensifying efforts to restore peace.
“We will not rest until we restore peace and stability to every corner of our country,” he said.
The President also called on the National Assembly to urgently amend the Constitution to allow the establishment of state police as part of efforts to tackle insecurity nationwide.
Tinubu further appealed for unity across political, ethnic and regional lines ahead of the 2027 elections.
“This next election must not merely be a contest of parties or ideas, but a reaffirmation of Nigeria’s democratic maturity,” he added.
The APC candidate pledged to continue pursuing economic expansion, industrialisation, infrastructure development, energy security and national unity if re-elected in 2027.
