The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed an attack on a Nigeria Immigration Service passport office in Ogbomoso, where armed hoodlums assaulted officers on duty and stole official equipment.
The incident occurred on the night of June 2, 2026, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade.
Ayanlade disclosed that the attackers targeted two immigration officers who were on night duty at the facility.
According to the police, the assailants used sticks and other dangerous weapons to attack the officers before making away with a G3 rifle assigned to the office and its accompanying ammunition.
The suspects also reportedly stole a mobile phone belonging to one of the officers, a power generating set and a motorcycle battery.
“The hoodlums reportedly attacked two Immigration officers who were on night duty, assaulting them with sticks and other dangerous weapons before making away with a G3 rifle assigned to the office, together with ammunition attached thereto,” the statement said.
“The suspects also carted away a mobile phone belonging to one of the officers on duty, a generating set and a motorcycle battery before escaping through the same route used to gain access to the facility.”
The police said a full-scale investigation has commenced to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Ayanlade revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, has directed all operational and intelligence units of the command to deploy available resources toward tracking down the suspects.
To strengthen the investigation, the police and the Nigeria Immigration Service have established a joint task team.
The collaborative team, involving the Commissioner of Police and the State Comptroller of Immigration, has been mandated to coordinate efforts aimed at recovering the stolen weapon and arresting the perpetrators.
The attack comes amid growing security concerns in Oyo State following recent incidents of kidnapping, armed attacks and other criminal activities that have heightened public anxiety across parts of the state.
Authorities have assured residents that efforts are ongoing to bring the attackers to justice and prevent similar incidents in the future.
