A woman has sparked discussion on social media after sharing her experience of living with a roommate whose persistent body odour created tension and discomfort in their shared accommodation.
The lady recounted the incident while reflecting on some of the most challenging roommate experiences she had encountered.
According to her, the odour was so severe that it affected the entire room and even lingered on clothing and personal belongings.
She explained that the situation became increasingly difficult over time, forcing her to spend less time in the room.
Rather than remain in the shared space, she often chose to sleep or spend time in other rooms to avoid the discomfort.
The woman said many people were aware of the issue and discussed it privately, but no one was willing to address it directly with the roommate involved.
Wanting to handle the matter respectfully, she decided to speak with the roommate in private instead of discussing the issue behind her back.
During the conversation, the roommate reportedly revealed that she had struggled with the condition since childhood.
The woman said she sympathised with her situation and even suggested a possible remedy, providing something she believed could help improve the condition.
Recalling the experience, she wrote:
“One of my worst roommate experiences was with a girl who had a very strong body odour. It was so bad that even my clothes would absorb the smell.”
However, the situation later took an unexpected turn.
According to her, she eventually learned that the roommate allegedly told other people she had been embarrassed and insulted during their conversation.
The development left her disappointed, as she insisted her intention was to offer help and address the matter privately rather than ridicule or shame anyone.
Feeling uncomfortable after the misunderstanding, she eventually requested a transfer to another room.
Her story has since generated mixed reactions online.
While some social media users sympathised with her and argued that she handled the matter respectfully, others pointed out how sensitive discussions about personal hygiene and medical conditions can be.
The conversation has also highlighted the challenges many people face when trying to address delicate issues involving roommates, friendships and shared living spaces without causing embarrassment or conflict.
The post continues to attract reactions as Nigerians share their views on communication, empathy and the best way to approach sensitive personal concerns.
