Apostle Femi Lazarus Faces Backlash Over Comments on Women’s Menstrual Pain

Apostle Femi Lazarus faces backlash after saying women’s menstrual pain isn’t a problem but a personality issue. Nigerians call his remark insensitive and dismissive.

Popular Nigerian cleric Apostle Femi Lazarus is trending across social media following a controversial remark he made about women and menstruation, which has sparked widespread criticism and debate online.

The Viral Comment

In a sermon clip that has gone viral, Lazarus was heard addressing women who experience mood changes during their menstrual cycle, claiming that their attitude—not menstruation—is the real issue.

He said:

“You are not the first woman to see your period, so your menstruation is not the problem. I have never seen anywhere in the Bible any woman complain about menstrual pain. You are simply not a peaceful person.”

Public Outrage

Many Nigerians, particularly women, have condemned the statement, describing it as insensitive and dismissive of a natural biological process. Critics argue that the cleric’s comments trivialize the genuine discomfort, hormonal shifts, and pain many women experience during menstruation.

Social media reactions flooded in within hours of the clip surfacing. One user wrote, “Preach Christ, not misogyny. You can’t speak on what you’ve never experienced.” Another added, “Statements like this make women feel shamed for being human.”

Divided Reactions

While a few supporters defended the preacher, suggesting his message was about emotional control rather than health, the majority have called for more empathy and understanding from religious leaders when discussing women’s issues.

As the debate continues, the clip has reignited broader conversations about gender sensitivity and the responsibilities of faith leaders in addressing social and biological matters.
