Presidency Denies Report Claiming Tinubu Plans Visit to U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance

The Presidency has debunked claims that President Tinubu plans to visit the U.S. to meet Vice President J.D. Vance, calling the report “false and misleading.”

The Presidency has dismissed viral reports claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to travel to the United States on Tuesday to meet with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.

In a statement shared via Facebook, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, described the story as false, misleading, and entirely fabricated.

Ajayi Labels the Report “Fake News”

Ajayi stated:

“There is a Sahara Reporters story that President Tinubu is going to the U.S. on Tuesday to see U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. That story is not true.”

He further clarified that if President Tinubu were to visit the White House, “he won’t be going to see a Vice President.”

The clarification follows widespread speculation on social media triggered by the initial report, which quickly drew uninformed commentary online.

No Official Travel Plans Confirmed

Earlier, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, had revealed via X (formerly Twitter) that President Tinubu would “soon meet with President Donald Trump” to discuss recent U.S. statements regarding alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

However, Ajayi’s statement has effectively debunked claims of any planned meeting or visit involving the American Vice President.

As of press time, the Presidency has not confirmed any official travel plans or diplomatic engagements between President Tinubu and U.S. officials concerning Nigeria’s reported redesignation as a “Country of Particular Concern (CPC).”
