“Customs Wahala in Morocco!” Burna Boy Briefly Detained Over Heavy Gold Jewellery on Way to AFCON Concert

Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy caused a stir in Morocco after he was briefly held by customs officials at a Moroccan airport over concerns about the heavy gold jewellery he was travelling with.

What Really Happened

The incident came to light after the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, confirmed it during a press briefing.

According to Motsepe, Moroccan customs officials stopped Burna Boy while he was en route to Rabat for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Fan Zone concert after noticing the large amount of expensive gold jewellery in his possession.

The situation reportedly required high-level intervention before it was calmly resolved.

Issue Resolved, Show Went On

Despite the brief delay, Burna Boy was cleared without any legal issues and went on to headline the AFCON Fan Zone concert in Rabat on January 16.

He shared the stage with Ghanaian star Stonebwoy, alongside Moroccan artistes Stormy and Jaylann, delivering a performance that thrilled fans.

Social Media Explodes

News of the incident quickly sparked heated reactions on X (formerly Twitter). While some users questioned why the singer travels with such expensive jewellery, others dismissed the criticism, pointing out that luxury displays are common among global music stars.

Some reactions included:

  • “E shock them.”
  • “Them know wealth wey dey Nigeria!!!”
  • Others, however, made personal remarks that many fans described as unnecessary and disrespectful.

Bottom Line

At the end of the day, Burna Boy faced no charges, performed as scheduled, and the incident ended without drama. Still, the brief customs stop has added another headline to the singer’s already headline-making presence at AFCON.

Once again, Odogwu no dey move small — even customs notice am.
