“If calling out r@p!sts makes you uncomfortable, you need to question yourself” — Singer Simi sparks debate

Nigerian singer Simi has stirred heavy conversations online after sharing a strong message about accountability among men.

In a post on X, she said many men create “safe spaces” for their friends’ harmful behaviour instead of calling them out. According to her, simply saying “I’m not like that” is not enough.

She also revealed that she carries pepper spray whenever she steps out alone or with her daughter, stressing that her fear is not of women but of potential threats from men.

Her most talked-about line stated that if someone is not a r@p!st yet feels bothered when r@p!sts are being called out, then they need to sit down and have a serious conversation with themselves.

The post quickly triggered mixed reactions.

Some users agreed with her stance, saying accountability among men is necessary and that no decent person should defend or ignore predatory behaviour.

Others, however, pushed back, arguing that while r@pe is wrong, conversations should also address cases of false accusations and avoid creating division among people who want to help make society safer.

Another critic accused the singer of being selective about speaking on past incidents, while some commenters questioned whether people proven to make false accusations face the same consequences as convicted offenders.
