Army Chief Assures Troops Are in Control as Operations Intensify Against Boko Haram, ISWAP

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has assured that troops under Operation HADIN KAI are firmly in control of the security situation in the North-East, despite renewed attacks by insurgents.

Shaibu gave the assurance on Saturday in Maiduguri after a closed-door meeting with the Theatre Commander, Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, and other senior officers at the Maimalari Cantonment, headquarters of the 7 Division.

Operational Visit to Assess Situation

The visit was part of a one-day operational assessment following recent attacks on military formations and civilian communities in Borno State and other parts of the North-East.

According to the army chief, commanders on the frontline briefed him on ongoing operations, progress made, and urgent needs required to strengthen the fight against insurgents.

“I am here on a routine operational visit. The meeting has given me the opportunity to hear directly from troops on the frontline about their challenges and requirements so that they can be addressed promptly,” Shaibu said.

He added that the Nigerian Army remains determined to eliminate fighters of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province operating in the region.

Renewed Attacks in Borno Communities

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, has expressed condolences to families affected by recent attacks in several communities.

Areas reportedly hit by insurgents include:

  • Ngoshe
  • Konduga
  • Mainok
  • Jakana
  • Marte

Reports indicate that both civilians and soldiers were killed during the attacks.

Hundreds Reportedly Abducted

Local sources also said that more than 300 residents, mostly women and children, were abducted in Gwoza Local Government Area, particularly in Ngoshe community.

Authorities say operations are ongoing to rescue the victims and restore full security in the affected areas.

Security agencies have urged residents to remain calm while the military intensifies efforts to clear remaining insurgents from the North-East.
