Canada-based pastor Tayo Kumuyi, known as Pastor Tayo Ministries, has challenged gospel singer Tope Alabi and other personalities to take legal action against the pastor if they believe the allegations made about them are defamatory. The challenge comes amid an escalating dispute over claims linking the individuals to the death of gospel singer Toluwanisings.
In a video circulating on Facebook, Pastor Tayo said anyone who believed their reputation had been damaged by the comments could pursue the matter through the courts. The pastor also warned that legal action could be taken against anyone accused of defaming the pastor.
The pastor cited Luke 6:31, a Bible verse that teaches people to treat others as they would like to be treated, to support the position.
The comments followed allegations made by Pastor Tayo concerning the death of Toluwanisings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji.
The pastor claimed to have received a spiritual revelation in which four well-known personalities allegedly appeared among people described as occultic. The names mentioned were Tope Alabi, Wole Agba, Wole Arole and Dele Omo Wole.
Pastor Tayo went further to allege that the individuals were responsible for the singer’s death and claimed that he had been targeted because of his supposed spiritual glory.
The pastor described the people allegedly seen in the revelation as “wolves in sheep clothing” and called on them to leave the church and stop what the pastor characterised as harm against Christians.
Pastor Tayo also appealed to the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to intervene and confirm the claims, while insisting that the individuals mentioned should be removed from the church.
However, the allegations remain unsubstantiated. The video provided no verifiable evidence establishing that Alabi or any of the other named individuals had any involvement in Toluwanisings’ death. A claimed spiritual revelation is not, by itself, proof of criminal wrongdoing.
The controversy has also drawn attention to the legal dispute between Pastor Tayo and Alabi.
On October 24, 2026, Alabi’s legal representatives, Oakmount Legal Practitioners, issued a cease-and-desist notice over social media publications allegedly linking the singer to Toluwanisings’ death and the deaths of other gospel ministers.
The lawyers reportedly demanded that the disputed publications be removed, that the allegations be retracted and that a public apology be issued within 24 hours.
In the notice, the legal team rejected the claims against Alabi, arguing that no police investigation, court ruling or official finding had established any connection between the singer and the deaths in question.
Alabi also shared the legal notice on Instagram and tagged the Nigeria Police Force, signalling her intention to pursue available legal remedies.
The latest challenge from Pastor Tayo appears to escalate the dispute, with the pastor indicating a willingness to defend the claims through legal proceedings if the individuals named decide to sue.
Toluwanisings died on October 14, 2026, aged 34, according to information provided by his family. His death has since prompted public tributes and controversy surrounding claims made about the circumstances.
As the disagreement continues, the central issue remains that serious allegations have been made against identifiable individuals without publicly presented evidence establishing their involvement in the singer’s death. Any claims of criminal responsibility would need to be supported by credible evidence and established through the appropriate legal process.
