NFF Dismisses Reports Linking Eric Chelle to Morocco Coaching Job

Reports suggesting that Eric Chelle could leave his role as Super Eagles coach to take over the Morocco national team have been dismissed by officials of the Nigeria Football Federation.

The clarification was made by Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe, who described the reports as false and confirmed that Chelle remains in charge of the Nigerian national team.

Rumours Started After Morocco Coach Exit

Speculation began after Morocco national football team parted ways with coach Walid Regragui, creating a vacancy ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Morocco are looking to build on their strong performance at the 2022 World Cup, where they reached the semi finals, and reports claimed Chelle was among the names being considered.

However, Nigerian officials insist there has been no contact and no plan for the coach to leave.

Interest in Chelle Growing After AFCON Performance

Chelle has attracted attention since guiding the Super Eagles to a third place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Although the team finished on the podium, some fans believed the squad had enough quality to win the tournament.

The former Mali coach has also been linked with coaching jobs in:

  • Algeria
  • Tunisia
  • Angola

He was also mentioned in reports involving French club Olympique de Marseille earlier this year.

Uncertainty Over Contract Extension

Despite the denial of the Morocco link, Chelle’s future with Nigeria is still unclear.

The coach is entering the final year of his contract, and talks over a new deal are still ongoing.

He recently confirmed that details of his contract demands that leaked online were correct, but the federation has not announced whether an agreement has been reached.
