A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after publicly criticising Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, over the alleged cancellation of a planned peaceful protest against insecurity in Nigeria.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the man claimed church members were initially instructed to participate in a three-day fasting programme before embarking on a peaceful walk to protest worsening insecurity across the country.
According to him, members were informed during church service that there would be no regular Sunday worship because congregants were expected to join the demonstration carrying placards.
“Last week Sunday, we were told we would do a three days fasting which started on Friday. On Sunday, there won’t be service in every Redeemed Christian Church of God because we would head out for a peaceful walk protest,” he said.
The man alleged that after arriving at church prepared for the march, members were suddenly informed that the planned protest had been cancelled following another directive from church leadership.
Speaking emotionally in Yoruba, he accused church leaders of remaining silent despite growing insecurity and hardship across the country.
He further alleged that political influence may have contributed to the cancellation, referencing Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, who is also a pastor in RCCG.
“Just because the wife of the president of this country, Oluremi Tinubu, who is a pastor in Redeem, gave an order, you people cancelled the protest,” he alleged.
Addressing Pastor Adeboye directly, the man expressed frustration over the state of insecurity in the country.
“Daddy, may God judge you. We’re no longer safe in this country, we’re finished. The church is ruined. Redeem members were told to hold protest, but you Daddy Enoch Adeboye stopped that protest,” he added.
The video has since generated mixed reactions online.
While some Nigerians sympathised with his concerns over insecurity and the role of religious leaders in national issues, others defended the RCCG leadership and cautioned against making unverified allegations.
The incident has further fueled conversations about insecurity, civic action and the influence of religious institutions in Nigeria’s socio-political space.
