Troops of the 17 Brigade under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued six kidnap victims who were abandoned by fleeing terrorists during a military offensive in Katsina State.
The rescue operation was carried out on June 29, 2026, at Unguwan Doka in Faskari Local Government Area, following sustained military operations targeting terrorist hideouts in the area.
The rescued victims include four women and two children.
They were identified as Mrs. Umaima Isiaku (30), Amina Isiaku (25), Fatima Saidu (22), Huzaima Nasiru (16), Usman Surajo (1) and Dauda Isiaku (18 months).
During preliminary interrogation, the victims revealed that they were kidnapped by armed terrorists on March 11, 2026, while travelling along the Tsafe–Bilbis Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to the victims, they are all indigenes of Bilbis village and spent more than three months in captivity before their abductors abandoned them while fleeing advancing troops.
Military sources said the sustained offensive operations mounted by the troops forced the terrorists to retreat, leading to the successful rescue of the captives.
The victims are currently receiving medical attention and other necessary support, while arrangements are being made to reunite them with their families.
The latest rescue forms part of the ongoing operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, a military campaign aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, rescuing kidnapped victims and restoring security across Nigeria’s North-West region.
