A notorious bandit leader identified as Kachalla Maha has allegedly threatened to kidnap top government officials, including state governors, while claiming to have access to confidential security information that allows him to stay ahead of military operations.
The claims were made in a recorded audio message that surfaced on Sunday and was shared by verified X user Abdool Moh. The authenticity of the recording has not been independently verified, and security authorities have not publicly responded to the allegations contained in it.
In the audio, Maha accused government authorities of refusing to release some of his arrested associates as well as cattle he claimed were seized during security operations.
According to him, repeated appeals for the release of his men were ignored, prompting him to intensify attacks and kidnappings across affected communities.
You arrested my men, and I asked for their release. You refused. I promised that I would abduct many people, and I already have targets,” he allegedly said in the recording.
The bandit leader further claimed that the continued detention of his associates had strengthened his resolve to continue his activities, insisting that no amount of military deployment would force him to back down.
“I asked why my men and Aminu were arrested. Since they were not released, I don’t care if they send thousands of soldiers. I am not tired, and I will not stop until I leave this world. I can kidnap top government officials, even a state governor,” he said.
Maha also made another unverified claim, alleging that he receives advance intelligence about planned security operations through informants embedded within security agencies.
“I swear to Almighty God that all the security forces sent to attack my camp are my boys. They inform me whenever they are coming. I receive information about security strategies, including those involving the President. It is only because I allow them to operate. Otherwise, they would not even be able to use the roads,” he claimed.
The allegations have not been substantiated, and there has been no official confirmation that security personnel leak operational information to the bandit leader as alleged in the recording.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian military, police and other relevant security agencies had not issued any public response to Maha’s claims or the threats contained in the viral audio.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by security forces to combat banditry and kidnapping in several parts of northern Nigeria, where criminal groups have continued to target communities, travellers and schools despite sustained military operations aimed at dismantling their camps.
