Army Confirms Lieutenant Died During Rescue Of 44 Abducted Oyo Pupils And Teachers

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac lost his life during the military operation that successfully rescued 44 abducted pupils and teachers from the Old Oyo National Park.

The 28-year-old officer was among the security personnel involved in the coordinated rescue mission that brought an end to the victims’ 56-day captivity. According to military authorities, he paid the ultimate sacrifice during the operation and was laid to rest the same day in line with military tradition.

The rescued pupils and teachers were kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State before security forces secured their freedom on July 10, 2026, following weeks of intelligence gathering and coordinated operations.

While announcing the success of the rescue mission, the Nigerian Army disclosed that the operation was carefully executed to ensure the safe recovery of all the hostages while minimising risks to civilians.

“It suffices to note that the operations were carefully planned and executed to avoid collateral damages and to equally ensure that the innocent children and teachers were safely rescued. However, there were some casualties on the part of the security forces,” the Army said in its statement.

The confirmation of Lieutenant Isaac’s death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from Nigerians, who praised his courage and sacrifice in the line of duty.

Oyo Affairs wrote:

“Here is one of the officers Governor Seyi Makinde mentioned, who paid the supreme sacrifice while trying to rescue the abducted Oriire teachers and schoolchildren. May his soul rest in peace.”

Another tribute by Sir Kay described him as:

“A gallant Army officer who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the 2026 operation to rescue abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State.”

Reacting to the news, TojuWes added:

Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac is being remembered as one of the officers who gave his life to ensure the safe return of dozens of innocent children and teachers, a sacrifice many Nigerians have described as a lasting symbol of bravery and service to the nation.
