Northwest University HOD Arrested After Alleged Sexual Harassment Sting Set Up by Married Student and Husband

A senior lecturer at Northwest University, Kano, formerly known as Yusuf Maitama Sule University, has been taken into police custody following allegations of sexual harassment involving a married female student.

The academic, who serves as the Head of the Department of History and International Studies at the university and is also a visiting lecturer at Mariam Abacha American Nigerian University (MAAUN), was reportedly caught during a planned meeting arranged after the student’s complaint.

According to reports, the woman accused the lecturer of repeatedly refusing to approve her academic project for about two years because she allegedly rejected his persistent sexual advances. Frustrated by the situation, she informed her husband, who allegedly worked with others to arrange a meeting with the lecturer.

Sources familiar with the incident claimed that conversations allegedly exchanged between the lecturer and the student suggested they agreed to meet shortly after the Maghrib prayer.

However, when the lecturer reportedly arrived at the agreed location, he was confronted by the woman’s husband and several other individuals. He was allegedly assaulted before being handed over to law enforcement authorities.

A video circulating on social media appears to show the lecturer pleading for mercy while being flogged during the confrontation. The footage has attracted widespread public attention and sparked debate over allegations of sexual harassment in higher institutions, as well as concerns about mob justice.

The claims against the lecturer remain allegations, and the outcome of the police investigation will determine any further legal action.
