The pupils and teachers rescued after spending 56 days in captivity have arrived at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, where they were officially received by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
The victims were welcomed at the Executive Council Chambers, Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, in the presence of top government officials, security chiefs, traditional leaders and other dignitaries.
The emotional reception came just days after security operatives successfully secured the victims’ freedom following a coordinated rescue operation.
The schoolchildren and teachers were abducted on May 15, 2026, during an attack in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and regained their freedom on July 10, ending nearly two months in captivity.
The rescue operation followed sustained efforts by the Nigerian military and other security agencies.
Sadly, one of the abducted teachers was reportedly beheaded by the kidnappers a few days after the abduction, while another teacher also lost his life during the ordeal.
The successful rescue has been widely welcomed across the country, with tributes pouring in for the security personnel who sacrificed their lives during the operation and prayers offered for the victims as they begin their recovery.
