US influencer Sara Gilson has died in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide, weeks after she publicly accused her estranged husband of inappropriate conduct involving a minor in a social media post.
According to police, officers responded to a 911 call from a child at a residence in Owasso, Oklahoma, at about 11:15 p.m. on July 23. Upon arrival, they found Gilson, 43, and her estranged husband, Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, 48, with gunshot wounds.
Investigators believe Duffey fatally shot Gilson before taking his own life. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
Just under two weeks earlier, on July 11, Gilson shared a TikTok video as part of a viral trend inspired by Netflix documentaries. In the post, she alleged that she had recently discovered her soon-to-be ex-husband had engaged in inappropriate conduct involving a child, adding in the caption, “I wish I was joking.”
The allegations made in Gilson’s social media post have not been proven in court, and authorities have not announced any criminal conviction against Duffey related to those claims.
Court records show that on June 10, Gilson filed for an emergency protective order, alleging that Duffey possessed a firearm, threatened to take his own life and fled the scene. A court subsequently ordered him to leave their shared residence and remain at least 100 yards away from her. The protective order was later extended until August 24.
On the same day, another woman reportedly filed a separate protective order on behalf of her 15-year-old daughter, alleging that Duffey behaved inappropriately toward the teenager while serving as her youth basketball coach.
According to the court filings, the mother alleged that Duffey kissed and touched the teenager without consent, sent her messages, invited her to his hotel room during a basketball tournament and allegedly offered her money to remain silent.
